Gravity: 8x8 Matrix ToF 3D Distance Sensor is a 64-pixel depth sensing module built for robots, interactive installations, gesture sensing, and smart automation projects. Based on the VL53L7CX sensor and an RP2040 processing MCU, it delivers real-time matrix distance data across an 8x8 grid.
The sensor measures from 20mm to 3500mm with a 60° horizontal, 60° vertical, and 90° diagonal field of view. Continuous ranging is supported at 15Hz to 60Hz, making it suitable for responsive obstacle detection, directional sensing, and motion-aware systems.
It supports I2C, UART, and USB output, giving makers flexibility during both development and deployment. USB output makes it easy to view live matrix data on a computer, while the Gravity PH2.0-4P interface simplifies wiring with compatible controller boards.

This sensor is well suited for robotics navigation, obstacle avoidance, drop-off detection, gesture control, entryway monitoring, and reactive installations such as following-eye displays or intelligent lighting systems.
Over USB, the module can output real-time 8x8 matrix data directly to a computer through a USB Type-C connection. Open a serial monitor at 115200 baud to view live distance data.
Important: when switching between I2C and UART modes, disconnect and reconnect power for the change to take effect. USB output currently supports 8x8 mode, while UART examples are also provided for obtaining 4x4 matrix data.
Firmware can be updated through the USB Type-C port in UF2 flash-drive mode. Version 1.3 is recommended, as it fixes invalid value handling by setting detected invalid readings to 4000.
From 20mm to 200mm, typical accuracy is ±11mm for white targets and ±12mm for light gray or gray targets. From 200mm to 3500mm, accuracy is specified as ±5% for white targets and ±6% for light gray or gray targets.
This is an 8x8 Time-of-Flight matrix sensor that outputs real-time depth data for 64 ranging points. It is designed to provide 3D distance sensing across its field of view rather than just a single-point measurement.
The listed working range is 20mm to 3500mm, and the sensor has a 60° horizontal and 60° vertical field of view, with a 90° diagonal field of view. This makes it suitable for short- to mid-range depth sensing applications.
It supports I2C, UART, and USB data output. The board uses a PH2.0-4P Gravity connector, and the UART baud rate is fixed at 115200bps.
Yes, the I2C address is adjustable with four options: 0x30, 0x31, 0x32, and 0x33. This allows up to four addressable sensors on the same I2C bus when your setup supports it.
The sensor operates from 3.3V to 5V. Its operating current is specified as less than 80mA.
You can connect it to a computer with a USB Type-C data cable and view real-time matrix data in a serial monitor at 115200 baud; USB output currently supports 8x8 mode. When switching between I2C and UART, move the mode switch and then power-cycle the sensor for the change to take effect.
